Your Information is Protected at College of Alameda!

Is it safe to provide my information if I am undocumented?

1. Students can be confident that any information they submit on their college admission and/or financial aid applications will not put themselves or their families at risk because is protected by federal and state law
2. The College of Alameda will not release any personally identifiable student information, including any data related to immigration status, unless authorized by the student or required by law.
3. Directory information, which includes name, dates of attendance, and other factors can be considered public information. If you do not want this information shared, you can OPT-OUT by submitting a signed copy of the Authorization for Release of Student Information to the Admissions Office in Building A or emailing it to coaadmissions@peralta.edu.
4. The CCCs, CSUs & UCs are open to all students who meet the minimum requirements for admission, regardless of immigration status.
5. Not all AB 540 students are undocumented. Most are legal residents. AB540 forms are worded in a way so as to protect undocumented students from having to declare their status (they are grouped with US citizens and permanent residents). The affidavit says “IF” they are an “alien without lawful immigration status,” then they will pursue a means to change their immigration status when it becomes available. Below is the wording for the box you check on the form and the affidavit you sign.
  - “I am NOT a nonimmigrant alien (including, but not limited to, a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or alien without lawful immigration status.)”
