CoA Physics

The mission of the Physics Department at College of Alameda is to integrate problem-solving with a firm conceptual foundation and laboratory exercises. You will spend time working with other students in class, discussing physics concepts, and solving problems together.

What You Will Learn

The study of Physics is the study of the universe, beginning with the fundamental structures of nature such as energy and matter. Ideas in physics have led to great developments such as relativity, superconductivity, the semiconductor chip, lasers, and string theory.

Recommended Course Sequence

  1. High School Physics or PHYS 10 with PHYS 10L
  2. PHYS 4A
  3. PHYS 4B
  4. PHYS 4C

What can I do with a degree in Physics?

With a degree in Physics, you can do basic and applied research, engineering, science education, and work in almost any field requiring you to think analytically about whole systems. It is also excellent preparation for higher educational pursuits in professional schools in medicine and patent law.

Additional Information

An intended Physics or Engineering transfer student should complete all requirements for Mathematics AS-T. Preparation for transferring into a Physics or Engineering major builds
on this foundation.
