Program Review

At College of Alameda, Program Review allows faculty and staff to lead a purposeful and continuous cycle of improvement through two related processes: Comprehensive Program Review and Abbreviated Program Review. Both the comprehensive program review and abbreviated program reviews are integral parts of an overall institutional evaluation, planning and development process with the following goals to:

  • Ensure that program goals are consistent and aligned with the college’s mission and strategic plan;
  • Ensure that academic and student service programs remain focused on student success by assessing equity gaps and discussing ways to close them;
  • Highlighting program strengths and challenges;
  • Provide updates to Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Service Area Outcomes (SAOs)
  • Emphasizing program needs and priorities via resource requests

PROGRAM REVIEW CYCLE 2023-2024 to 2026-2027

All Program highlighted in Green will be conducting either a Program Review or Abbreviated Program Review this coming academic year for 2025-2026.

March 13th 2025: Institutional Effectiveness Committee voted and approved the new four year program review cycle

March 17th 2025: Academic Senate first discussion and look over the new four year program review cycle

April 17th 2025: Academic Senate voted and approved the new four year Program Review Cycle

April 23rd 2025: College Council voted and approved the new four year Program Review Cycle

Standard IIA.2(e) of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges states, The institution should evaluates all courses and programs through an on-going systematic review of their relevance, appropriateness, achievement of learning outcomes, currency, and future needs and plans. Because the cycle for the overall accreditation process is six years, and one can safely assume that a college that had not reviewed its curriculum between accreditation processes would not be seen as compliant, a curriculum review cycle of six years or less would be necessary to meet Accreditation Standard IIA.2(e).

College of Alameda decided to changed there Program Review Cycle from a three year cycle to a four year cycle. Programs conducts Comprehensive Program Review once during the 4 year cycle and conducts Abbreviated Program Review once during the 4 year cycle. Career Technical Education (CTE) programs must complete either a comprehensive or abbreviated program review every two years pursuant to California Education Code §78016 which ensures that each program meets a documented labor market demand.

The Abbreviated Program Review is the past Annual Program Updates templates. Name was changed to match state definitions of Program Review definitions.

When a program is not conducting a Program Review or Abbreviated Program Review, an Annual Program Update Survey is given to capture any qualitative data about events and changes in the program that academic year.
