Job Description

Purpose:

Under general supervision of the dean and/or designee, performs a range of clerical tasks to support the division.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Providing coverage for the front desk/reception area, including answering phones, transferring calls, and taking messages 
  • Providing coverage at the table located in the lobby of the H Building
  • Directing students to different offices, buildings, programs, departments, and classes
  • Providing a professional, helpful, welcoming atmosphere and a positive attitude for faculty, staff, students, families, callers, and visitors 
  • Making copies or scanning documents for staff members or as a part of  specialized projects
  • Picking up and distributing mail
  • Maintaining bulletin boards
  • Assisting with projects as required 
  • Staffing information tables and helping with events
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, gender, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of a community college population
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite, internet browsers, websites, and e-mail
  • Multitasking and prioritizing tasks to meet needs
  • Good written and spoken communication skills

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bilingual skills are desired but not required

Purpose:

General teaching and research assistance for instruction on Political Science, Psychology, and Community Change and Urban Leadership (CCUL) Initiative projects.  

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research Assistant: Survey Research- focus group facilitation; assistance in setting up and managing events.  
  • Clerical Support: office machinery (e.g. copiers, computers), software usages (e.g. word, excel, graphics, typing and filing) 
  • Assistance at meetings: minutes and staff assistant to CCUL.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be highly self-disciplined and independent with initiative. 
  • Be organized and flexible. 
  • Be reliable and adaptive. 
  • Have advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, graphics) skills. 
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Must have strong critical thinking skills.

Student employee will work with the Veterans Resource Center in order to provide general administrative support and assistance in front desk duties.

Job Description

Purpose:

To provide general office support to financial aid staff to achieve the office goal to provide accurate, timely financial aid services to College of Alameda students. Students will learn the basic flow of the financial aid process, the role and responsibilities of the financial aid office in determining student eligibility, as well as gain fundamental knowledge of financial aid in order to assist peers with general inquiries, financial aid information, and applications. The student will learn a variety of job skills while working on various projects, such as self-management, communication, problem-solving, and assorted technology skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Assists students regarding financial aid procedures & processes.
  2. Maintains and organized financial aid records and files.
  3. Assist with student financial aid file retrieval and creation.
  4. Assist with a large volume of outgoing correspondence to students.
  5. Prepare student Financial Aid Appeals for Appeal Committee.
  6. Assist the Financial Aid Supervisor on various projects and prepare reports.
  7. Assist staff in conducting financial aid hands-on workshops.
  8. Assists students via Zoom to assist in completing FAFSA/Dream Act Applications.
  9. Assist in creating or updating flyers and other office/student materials, copy and assemble material packets for distribution.
  10. Assist staff to monitor inventory of supplies and printed material.
  11. Assist staff to maintain a clean and safe working area, and maintain secure office.
  12. Maintains office equipment such as fax machines, copying machines, personal computers, and printers.
  13. Maintains email account and voicemails, forwards to staff for a response.
  14. Assists staff with social media campaigns; create posts; and download reports on campaigns.
  15. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Ability to work in a fast-paced setting. 
  2. Must be able to file alphabetically and accurately.
  3. Ability to be an effective communicator. 
  4. Demonstrates the ability and willingness to learn.   
  5. Familiar with social media.
