How to get started
- Download, print and complete recruiting questionnaire and return to Coach.
- If you are interested in playing an intercollegiate sport at the College of Alameda and you do not live in our local recruiting area (Alameda County), you will need to print out and complete a Form C – Out of State – Student Contact Form (Word)
- Complete your enrollment On-Line: Click on this link to complete the application for admissions
- Submit a FAFSA or CA Dream Act application to see if you qualify for any financial aid federal or state financial aid. For additional help, contact CoA’s Financial Aid Department at 510-748-2184, www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Plan your classes with the athletic academic counselor.
- Enroll in classes. Pay your fees
College of Alameda abides by the provisions of the California Community Colleges Athletic Code as well as the specifications imposed by the Bay Valley Conference (BVC). The nature of these requirements is very exacting. Athletes are advised to become thoroughly familiar with the requirements to avoid loss of eligibility. A copy of the CCC Athletic Code is on file in the office of the Athletic Director.
To be eligible for intercollegiate competition:
- If you are an incoming Freshman, have just graduated from high school and this is your first Fall term at a post secondary institution – you are eligible immediately to participate.
- If you have attended a two year or four year post secondary institution PRIOR to enrolling into the College of Alameda -please contact the Athletic Director
- As a student athlete you must be enrolled in, and passing, 12 units and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0. A minimum of 9/12 units must be academic. If you are planning to complete your studies in two years , you must average 15 transferable units per term
- If you have competed in your first season of competition you must pass a total of 24 units prior to the next season with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0. A minimum of 18/24 units must be academic.
For Men’s Basketball:
Fall & Spring Semesters:
- Practice Monday Thru Friday From 12:00pm-1:55pm.
- Pre-season tournaments are played on weekends and conference games are played on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights.
For Women’s Volleyball:
In Season – Fall Semester:
- Practice TBA
- Match schedule TBD.
- Matches are played on Wednesdays and Fridays.
- Tournaments on Friday-Saturday.
Athletic Counseling
As a student athlete, you have to balance practice, team meetings and games with your studies, which can be hard. While it may be up to you to win on the floor, our Athletics Counselor will help make it easier for you to win off the floor. Working with you, they will provide:
- Accessible for drop-in and scheduled appointments for individual advising counseling, career exploration and personal counseling.
- Creating an Individualized Education Plans each semester based on skill levels, previous course work, grade point average and personal goals.
- Recommend Athletics Orientation and Career Planning classes and provide priority registration dates each for semester.
- Review academic, graduation, transfer and athletic eligibility requirements with you individually and through Team Advisement Workshops held each semester prior to registration.
- Monitor NCAA and NAIA regulations for transfer eligibility. We encourage you to complete the Associate Degree (or ADT), which includes 60 units, 48 units must be transferable with a minimum grade point average of 2.50 to compete at a Division I four-year institution.

I Want To Become A Student Of The Athletic Eligibility Game
A successful College of Alameda Student Athlete-must be held accountable and be self responsible for their own ability to remain eligible during their attendance at the college. The decision to transfer to another school is an important and often difficult one in your college career. Before you act, do your homework. Make sure you understand how transferring will affect you, so you don’t negatively impact your education or your chances to play college sports. Listed below are some important information that one must become educated in the game of athletic eligibility.

Transfer Admission
You as a student must be eligible for transfer admission to the school of your choice, as a STUDENT…if you get recruited by…
A CSU CAMPUS
- You must complete 60 transferable units.
- You must complete the “Golden 4”
A UC CAMPUS
- You must complete 60 UC transferable units.
- You must complete Engl 1A and Engl 5
- You must complete a transferable math course
- You must complete the Foreign Language requirement

and you are being recruited by a NCAA D-I or D-II school…

NCAA Eligibility and the Two-Year Transfer
California Community College Eligibility Basics
To be eligible to participate in Intercollegiate Athletics, you must be knowledgeable as well as accountable for the CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (CCCAA) eligibility requirements for your first season of competition and your second season of competition. Do not confuse the CCCAA rules and requirements with the NCAA rules and requirements. if you have any questions pleae do not hesitate to meet with your Athletic Director for clarification.

Listed below are the basic eligibility rules for participation at a California Community College Intercollegiate Athletic Program
To be eligible for intercollegiate athletic competition:

- B) If you have attended a two year or four year post secondary institution PRIOR to enrolling into the College of Alameda -please contact the Athletic Director

- D) If you have competed in your first season of competition you must pass a total of 24 units prior to the next season with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0. A minimum of 18/24 units must be academic.
- E) Once you start your participation in an Intercollegiate Athletic Program, you must pass a minimum of 6 units in every full-time term you are enrolled in from the beginning term of your first participation.
